How does it work?

Freediving or breath-hold diving is a type of advanced snorkeling, skin-diving and water adventure that allows you to experience the sights, sounds, and challenges of the most natural of underwater experiences.

Malibu Divers offers:
  1. 1. Freediving Level 1 starts on Saturday with time divided between the classroom at Malibu Divers and diving in a heated, Olympic sized swimming pool learning the safe use of freediving gear and the core foundational skills and lessons of freediving. Sunday, we travel to the ocean to put your new skills to use!

This full package includes the following:
  1. - The entire Freediver training program (manual provided in class, Certification card)
  2. - Pool skills, open water training dives at a local beach or at Catalina Island (additional fee) or Boat trip (additional fee)
* Freediving equipment is not included (mask, fins, snorkel, socks, gloves, weights, weight belt, depth &/or timing device, gear bag)
* Rental of freediving equipment is available; sizes and quantity are limited (wetsuit, weights, weight belt, hood, freediving fins, etc. )

The Level 1 course is aimed to provide basic knowledge of the different freediving categories, the important rules of behavior and the safest way to perform freediving while allowing the fastest improvement. It is an introduction to the fundamental techniques of the FII education system. This highly effective 1.5 day course covers everything from safety & problem management, breathing techniques & equipment selection to correct freediving methods for gradual depth progression. it is formal freediving education system provides divers with a solid foundation to freedive confidently and safely up to depths of 66 feet/20 meters with breathholds up to 3 minutes. For divers already achieving these depths, it will provide an enhanced understanding of the sport and modern new techniques. This program includes academic presentations, confined water training and one open water session.
